Finding My Towel

Professional
Journey

After 40 years in two global corporates changing my job and sometimes country every 6-24 months, I had managed multi-million pound budgets and major clients, been a contract troubleshooter and a keystone in start-ups.

I had always coached people, even two of my bosses, and helping people grow was a major driver for me.

A 2017 redundancy provided the chance to change direction.

When I was 60, my coach had asked me “what will you do when they take away your badge?” I knew that bridge, golf or couch potato wouldn’t be enough and we established that I love intellectual challenge, working with people and always give back.

I felt that coaching was in my core and decided to explore it more. I am still exploring!!

Academic
Pursuit

Intellectually, I have an MSc in Coaching and Behavioural Change from Henley Business School, including the Professional Certificate in Coaching. I continue to explore coaching through many channels including certifying as a Physical Intelligence Coach. and developing a Mentor Skills Development Programme for the WCIT.

I have a sense of belonging to new ‘people tribes’: at Henley, in coaching, at my livery company and in various business networking forums.

Of course, I am working with people in all sorts of ways, including giving back.

Fulfilling
Engagement

In The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams it says that a ‘froody’ hitchhiker knows where their towel is. The concept of self-knowledge as a towel landed so well for me that I have themed my explanation of how I work on that concept.

I help my clients find their towel !

Today, I am confident about my own towel and I am more fulfilled than ever.

My need for intellectual challenge is met by reading and perpetual studies and my huge wish to work with people by my coaching practice. I give back as a pro-bono coach and as Liveryman in The Worshipful Company of Information Technologists …. and I scuba dive for exercise and the biology.

Fun Bits

When we were crafting this website page, David Krushell of Evolve Your Digital asked what I do for fun.

My answer was, “Well, all of this. My towel is everything I do and I only do stuff I want to do.

Whether that is diving, helping a client to restructure their charity operation or another to re-imagine their retirement.

Oh, and I nearly forgot, I have taken up nature photography, travel a lot more and in recent years have been widowed, fallen in love again and got married. Isn’t that enough fun for now ?!” .... he laughed !!

In the following 10 minute video, I talk much more about myself and finding my towel. Please feel free to watch my video.
